Destroying CIA Tapes Deserves a Thank You
Right-Wing Pundit: Give The CIA Official Who Destroyed The Torture Tapes ‚Äö√Ñ√≤A Medal’
His name isn’t yet familiar to most Americans, but I expect it will be by the end of 2008: Jose A. Rodriguez Jr. He is the man, according to recent press reports, who ordered the destruction of interrogation tapes made by the CIA, which allegedly show the effects of waterboarding and other “enhanced interrogation techniques” used against terrorists Abu Zubaydah and Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri. In the next few months, his name will likely be dragged through the mud, and he will be vilified as a rogue official engaged in a massive cover-up. I think he deserves a medal.
All hail the High Priestess of the Not-So-Democratic Republic of Wingnuttia, former Secretary of Labor nominee Linda Chavez, who clearly didn’t get the memo that breaking the law is…well…a bad thing. Then again, when you’re fighting a war to the death against evil, radical, Fundamentalist Islam, you have no hope of making an omelette unless you’re willing to break a few eggs, no? Apparently, to Chavez’ way of thinking, anything goes when it comes to fighting terrorism…even if actions undertaken in this battle drag us down to the level of those we’re fighting.
It’s not very often that an uber-Conservative wingnut leaves me anything close to speechless, but Chavez did exactly that. This sort of mindless wingnuttery almost defies rational explanation. How such an ostensibly capable and intelligent woman as Chavez can conveniently ignore the fact that we live in a country governed by the rule of law is something I simply can’t fathom. Perhaps it’s just that her devotion to Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader’s © authoritarian intransigence means that she’s willing to overlook the contravention of the rule of law in the prosecution of the never-ending War on Terror. Hey, it’s for the Greater Good, don’tchaknow??
What else could one reasonably expect from a woman who so thoroughly and unquestioningly supports a President who continues to insist that “America does not torture” despite growing and insurmountable evidence to the contrary? Chavez’ willing ignorance of abject reality and the rule of law is indicative of her allegiance to agenda above all else. If nothing else, this cements the reality that she richly deserves her DUMB@$$ AWARD.
Yes, Virginia, it’s true…the road to Hell really IS paved with Republicans.
