Dick Claims to Have a Bigger, uh, Stick
Vice President Cheney warned in an interview Wednesday that a premature withdrawal from Iraq would invite “further attacks” against the United States and said he has been surprised by the weakness of the Democratic Congress…. In a 40-minute interview with Politico, he scoffed at the idea of two men who spent years accruing power showing so much deference to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) in the big spending and energy debates of the year. Murtha “and the other senior leaders ‚Äö√Ѭ∂ march to the tune of Nancy Pelosi to an extent I had not seen, frankly, with any previous speaker,” Cheney said. “I’m trying to think how to say all of this in a gentlemanly fashion, but [in] the Congress I served in, that wouldn’t have happened.”…. But his implication was clear: When asked if these men had lost their spines, he responded, “They are not carrying the big sticks I would have expected.”
I can hardly wait until someone comes up with a way to work this theme into Indecision 2008: Democrats have tiny penises. Yes, as trite and ignorant as they may seem, this is essentially what Darth Vader Dick Cheney is implying with his crude and spectacularly unsubtle and unflattering sexual imagery. Coming from a man who has dissed and disrespected Democrats at every possible opportunity, and who has a reputation for being somewhat, uh, mean-spirited?, it’s difficult to take Cheney’s verbal vomit seriously. This, after all, is the same Vice President who told Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) to go f—k himself. Now THAT’S some principled leadership, eh?

The disturbingly sad aspect of Cheney’s remarks is that they really are indicative of not only his views toward dissent and principled opposition, but his boss and the rest of their adminsration as well. The prevailing philosophy seems to be that real, patriotic Americans don’t ask questions- they do as they’re told and they believe what they’re told. If Cheney says that Iran is a threat because they’re developing nuclear weapons, then they’re a threat because they’re developing nuclear weapons. He said it. Therefore it’s true. We must believe it…or the terrorists win.
From my perspective, you’ve got to suspect that Cheney is firing rhetorical blanks when he’s reduced to questioning the opposition’s manhood- as if REAL men lie, spin, prevaricate, fabricate intelligence, and invade sovereign nations under false pretenses. Yeah, THAT’S how a REAL man demonstrates that he’s got a large pair.
