OK, OK…I get it. The White House Christmas card wasn’t funded by tax dollars; the Republican National Committee footed the bill, so I can’t wax apoplectic about my tax dollars being used for a blatant advertisement for radical Old Testament dominionism. And I understand that this isn’t exactly the first time that Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © has chosen to flaunt his religiosity. Nonetheless, for a man who rode into office promising to be a uniter and not a divider, this action certainly speaks louder than any of his cheap, meaningless words EVER could.
I don’t begrudge The Worst President EVER © his beliefs. What I do resent is the overt endorsement of his brand of radical Old Testament dominionism. A White House Christmas card is not inappropriate. After all, how many businesses send Christmas cards to their customers? The same ideas apply here. Of course, most businesses recognize that their customer base consists of a wide range of beliefs. Accordingly, they’re generally smart enough to avoid the sort of overt religiosity expressed by this year’s White House Christmas Card.
Nothing demonstrates the radical, intolerant Christianization of the federal government better than this year’s White House Christmas Card. To me it says that, yes, we’re the government of all Americans- because REAL Americans are radical Old Testament dominionist Christians. Well, I’ve got something I want to get off my chest. While I respect Christianity (if not always the people who profess and practice bastardized versions of it), I’m beyond offended. I’m a Buddhist, and I’m every bit as much an American as the self-righteous dominionist troglodytes who currently infest the federal government at all levels.
Yes, Christmas is a Christian holiday. I get that. But would it be too much to ask not to be slapped in the face with your overt religiosity?
