When you begin to think that your life sucks, do what I do: remember that you could be living in Tulsa. This is from an email from Adam & Eric’s father, who moved to Tulsa recently. Lucky man, ain’t he??
I am in the local Panera Bread, one of the few places in Tulsa with both power and Internet service. The ice storm knocked out our power Sunday at 6:30 a.m. We spent one “romantic” night in front of the fireplace on the mattress hauled out from our bedroom. I didn’t sleep at all. I had to stoke the fire. Transformers were exploding all over our neighborhood like shotgun blasts. Then the trees started creaking, followed by more shotgun blasts as the branches and tree trunks snapped. We lost a gorgeous ornamental oak in the front yard, but the 100 year old oak did fine. The dogwood lost about ¬¨¬∫ of its branches. The backyard didn’t fare as well. We lost a lot of big limbs on the huge maple in the backyard, one of which is perched on top of the garage. The house escaped damage, but the fence was demolished on one side by the neighbor’s tree. We lost a pine on the side yard that stretched across the street. There usually are about 5 ways in and out of the neighborhood, but only one is passable. We live in a 40-year old neighborhood, and our trees were the hardest hit in town. See the attached pictures from the backyard. We were lucky compared to a lot of our neighbors. We’re expecting snow for the weekend….. We’re not expecting power for 7 to 10 days.
