For the trolls shall always be among us

Fox News guest: sex ed boosters want kids to get STDs

During the Dec. 31 broadcast of Fox News’ Special Report, Concerned Women for America President Wendy Wright claimed that proponents of comprehensive sex education are trying to “encourage” sex because “they benefit when kids end up having sexually transmitted diseases, unintended pregnancies and then they lead them into having abortions.” She then added, “You have to look at the financial motives behind those who are promoting comprehensive sex ed.”

Oh, man…this is going to be one of those stories that’s really going to test my resolve to be more positive, isn’t it? And it’s REALLY going to make me want to bring back the DUMB@$$ AWARDS, isn’t it? Yessirree, though my resolve remains strong, even I can’t ignore the reality that we done got us a real, live DUMB@$$ here, y’all. ‘Course, this isn’t my first experience with Concerned Women for America (find your own damn link; I’m not about to honor these trolls). The reality is that these folks aren’t nearly as concerned about America as they are about their narrow, ignorant, hatred-fueled agenda. I’m truly touched by their concern for the welfare of children, though. NOT!!

Many of the CWA ‘bots call themselves Christians, but it doesn’t take a Ph.D. to recognize that they’re as much about the Gospel of Jesus Christ as Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID) is about avoiding airport men’s restrooms. It’s about power, control, and authoritarianism…same as it ever was. The song remains the same…it’s only the musicians who change.

That ANYONE could seriously claim that those who advocate educating children about sex and sexuality actually WANT children to get STDs so they can be convinced to have abortions is beyond merely offensive. The surpassing arrogance and ignorance displayed by Wright and her ilk only serves to demonstrate how little these ignorami deserve to be in positions of power. I’ve always believed in the late Tip O’Neill’s characterization of politics as “the art of the possible”. Compromise and accommodation are what make a healthy democracy function. People like Wendy Wright are actively seeking to create and enforce a narrow, ignorant Dominionist theocracy, an authoritarian, anti-democratic system of government in which Fundamentalist Christians wield the levers of power based on bibilical principles (as they interpret them) and their own self-interest. If she has to engage in some highly offensive and patently false rhetoric and propaganda along the way…well, that’s just a cost of doing business. It’s all about achieving, consolidating, and maintaining power…and doing whatever it takes to reach that point. After all, What Would Jesus Do? Personally, I think He’d be kicking some serious @$$ from here to Thursday. These maroons are as much about the teachings of Jesus Christ as Britney Spears is about motherhood.

Yes, it’s true…Wendy Wright and her ilk really DO put the “fun” back into “Fundamentalism”. These folks truly are frightening, not so much for their beliefs, which they’re certainly free to, but for their willingness- nay, their stated desire- to force them upon those of us not enlightened enough to share their ignorant, fear-based, repressive theology warm, welcoming, tolerant Christian views.
