That does it; I'm moving to Vermont!

Brattleboro to vote on arresting Bush, Cheney

BRATTLEBORO — Brattleboro residents will vote at town meeting on whether President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney should be indicted and arrested for war crimes, perjury or obstruction of justice if they ever step foot in Vermont. The Brattleboro Select Board voted 3-2 Friday to put the controversial item on the Town Meeting Day warning. According to Town Clerk Annette Cappy, organizers of the Bush-Cheney issue gathered enough signatures, and it was up to the Select Board whether Brattleboro voters would consider the issue in March.

What do you get when Americans actually pay attention to what’s being done in their name? Yep, you’re going to get something pretty close to what’s happening in Brattleboro, VT. File this under “We’re mad as Hell, and we’ll not going to take it anymore”, I suppose. While these folks might look like they’re possessed by the spirit of Paddy Chayefsky, this sort of thing is exactly what democracy should be about. No, voting to arrest a sitting President and Vice President is not going to change a (&^%$#@ thing, not this late in the Reign of Error © It’s too bad, really, but this is one group of people using the power available to them in a free society.

I have to admit, though, that I really do like the idea of Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © and The Prince of Darkness © being declared persona non grata in Vermont. If only we could get a few other states to follow suit. This sort of thing would never see the light of day in Texas, but I’m betting that here in Portland, we could scare up enough people to pass a similar resolution. There’s nothing that would bring me greater joy than to see those two clowns cooling their heels in the Multnomah County jail in orange jumpsuits. Ah, just the thought of it brings a smile to my face. A man can dream, no?

Yes…yes, he can. And I do…not that I expect that we’ll ever see the two biggest war criminals since Adolf Hitler and Pol Pot being called to account for their crimes.
