Time to rethink some well-established misconceptions

Dennis Kucinich got a judge to order MSNBC, the cable channel, to let him be a part of the debate, which is the political equivalent of your mom forcing the other kids to play with you. … But then a state Supreme Court judge overruled him, so he couldn’t go to the debate. Apparently, the fact that he has no chance whatsoever has not slowed Dennis Kucinich down at all. I don’t blame him though, because when you look like a Keebler Elf and your wife looks like this [on screen: Elizabeth Kucinich], how can you help but believe that anything is possible?

Like a lot of bloggers, I’ve had my share of fun at the expense of Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH). It’s an easy thing to do; the man does have a reputation for being “out there”. He wants to create a Department of Peace, and he’s admitted to seeing UFOs. (Not only that, his name is an anagram for “Nine-inch dick, U.S.”. Just ask his wife.) Not exactly the sort of mainstream thought process we’ve come to expect from our Presidential candidates. As Indecision 2008 has progressed, I, like some other bloggers, have come the realization that there’s more to Kucinich than meets the eye. Yes, some folks get themselves all wrapped up in his wife, Elizabeth, a young, very attractive redhead who thinks the sun rises and sets over her husband. While having a hot wife is never a bad thing, what truly impresses me about Kucinich is that his message has remained consistent over the years. His philosophy and convictions haven’t been modified depending on which way the political winds happening to be blowing. This isn’t Kucinich’s first Presidential campaign, and his message and his passion has been carried unchanged from one to the next. His integrity, consistency, and his willingness to speak his mind regardless of the political consequences is something that other candidates could take a few lessons from.

No, Kucinich doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in Hell of becoming President, which is really too bad. He’s running for the right reasons, which is something that I’m not so certain can be said for most of the other candidates, particularly the Republicans. He’s not power-hungry, he’s not on an ego trip, and he’s not a megalomaniac. Dennis Kucinich simply wants to make America a better and more peaceful place. When did that become a reason for ridicule? I’ve been as guilty of it as anyone else, and I’ve finally come to realize that I’ve been way off base. Would that more Americans would do the same. Without a doubt, this country would be a better place with Kucinich in the White House. It’s too bad that he’ll never realize that dream.
