Religious right leader James Dobson: I will not vote for McCain
But what a sad and melancholy decision this is for me and many other conservatives. Should Sen. McCain capture the nomination as many assume, I believe this general election will offer the worst choices for president in my lifetime. I certainly can’t vote for Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama based on their virulently anti-family policy positions. If these are the nominees in November, I simply will not cast a ballot for president for the first time in my life.
OK…can someone please explain to me why James Dobson not voting is a problem? Would that more like-minded uber-Christian zealots would make the same decisions. Perhaps if more of these knuckle-draggers sat out Indecision 2008, this country could actually have an honest political dialogue free of holier-than-thou posturing that characterizes most Evangelicals.
Dobson is, of course, free to hold and/or express his opinion. This is the essence of democracy. I’m also free to ridicule him as an intolerant, self-righteous, holier-than-thou zealot who is as much about the teachings of Jesus Christ as Ted Bundy was about long-term relationships.
Dobson’s problem seems to be that John McCain is insufficiently Conservative and Christian for his taste. Again, he’s free to his opinion; this is still (nominally, at least) a free country. Really, though; James Dobson threatening to not cast a ballot is something that we should be disturbed about? Frankly, I’m ecstatic. Now if he can just convince a few million of his fellow pseudo-Christians to do the same thing….
