It was a pretty good weekend, wasn't it??

After this past weekend, it’s beginning to appear that Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) is gathering momentum. Depending on which delegate count you happen to believe, Obama is still slightly ahead, slightly behind, or effectively tied with Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY). If you believe in momentum, though, Obama clearly seems to have Big Mo’s endorsement. After winning all five states and territories holding primary contests (and stealing a Grammy from former President Bill Clinton), and being ahead in polls in Virginia, it’s beginning to appear that Clinton’s aura of “inevitability” may be going the way of the buffalo. And what appear to be cracks in the facade of Team Clinton are already showing.

Over the weekend, Clinton changed campaign managers. I recognize that there’s the strong possibility that the change at the top of the campaign may be apropos of nothing, but the timing certainly seems strange, if not a bit desperate.

Then there’s also the reality of poll numbers that show Clinton less of a sure thing against John McCain than Obama. Those on the Left who insist on pushing Clinton while sparing no rhetorical effort to smear Obama (yes, I’m talking to you, Carolyn) might want to think twice about your choice of tactics. Clinton has some serious negatives that might just make it easier for John McCain to defeat her in November. Obama doesn’t have that baggage, and I believe that he would tear McCain a new one.

Running Obama down in support of Clinton only shows how much like Republicans some Democrats really are. We should be united in trying to put a Democrat back into the Oval Office. We should NOT be devoting significant effort to tearing down a fellow Democrat simply so your candidate will emerge victorious. You don’t see Obama supporters doing this. Why should Clinton supporters feel the need to sink so low?

WE DESERVE BETTER.
