So, it would seem a large number of otherwise lucid folks have their panties in a wad because Jane Fonda used what is euphemistically called the “C word”. Now NBC is falling all over itself apologizing up one side and down the other. Heaven forbid that someone might actually be offended by a single four-letter word.
Honestly, I think Fonda was referring to my recent post on Citizens United Not Timid, and I was flattered. It’s not every day that something I write ignites a national controversy- even a contrived and artificial one. OK, so she didn’t mention me or TPRS by name, but how many other people do your know who have been writing about C.U.N.T. these days? Hmm?? That’s what I thought….
Jeebus, y’all…. Methinks that perhaps there are far too many people who take offense far too easily. Yes, I would agree that the “C word” is crude, but a word only carries the meanings and connotations we choose to impart to it. Is the word appropriate in polite company? Perhaps not; but should that be grounds for people to come down with the vapors because their tender sensibilities have been violated? Man, just think what outrage might have been ginned up had Fonda begun reciting “The Vagina Monologues” on the “Today Show”. Oh, the humanity….
Get over yourselves already….
