When people ask what the difference is between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, all you really need to do is to look at how the Clinton campaign reacted when momentum began to turn against them. Almost immediately, Clinton’s campaign and her advertising took on a decidedly negative orientation, one that I find very disturbing. When Clinton was still the front-runner- especially when she was still considered “inevitable”, Obama concentrated on his ideas and maintained a positive tone. He didn’t go negative, and he didn’t devote significant time and energy to attacking Clinton. To me that says everything. Clinton hasn’t dealt at all well with not being the front-runner, while Obama’s demeanor and the tone of his campaign has remain unchanged. More than any other candidate, Democrat OR Republican, Obama has maintained an even keel and his demeanor has remained largely unchanged. Given the pressure-packed, stress-filled, sleep-deprived nature of a months-long Presidential campaign, that says a lot- at least to me.
IF Hillary Clinton does end up winning the Democratic nomination, I’ll support her- because any Democrat will be infinitely preferable to John McCain…or as I like to call him, Bush Light © . Nonetheless, as time goes by, my esteem for Barack Obama only grows stronger. Not only has he put himself in excellent position to win the Democratic nomination, he’s done it in a way that demonstrates the class and dignity he’s conducted his entire campaign with.
We could certainly do a whole lot worse than Barack Obama- if only because for the part eight years we have.
