Doing the right thing for the right reasons

The Vermont towns of Brattleboro and Marlboro have voted to indict Bush and Cheney for crimes against the Constitution and have instructed police to arrest them should they set foot in their towns. May hundreds of other municipalities do the same.

Outside of our men and women in uniform, it would seem that the only real American heroes on these shores live in Vermont. Yes, that small frozen outpost renowned for it’s tactiturn contrariness is home to a movement…one of the few that have our best interests at heart.

The good news is that if either Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © or Vlad the Impaler © set foot in Marlboro or Brattleboro, VT, police are under orders to arrest them. The bad news is that the police would have to get past the Secret Service to carry out the arrests. Yeah, like that’s going to happen….

I suppose the odds of either one of these war criminals showing up anywhere in Vermont for any reason is remote, but it’s refreshing to note that at least someone somewhere has taken a stand. If there’s one thing I’ve learned during my lifetime, it’s that there’s no wrong way to do the right thing. Ultimately, of course, this will turn out to be much ado about nothing and/or an exercise in futility. Still, as an expression of disdain for the Reign of Error © we’ve been subjected to, this vote speaks loud and clear.

When your slamming back a few brewskis tonight, take a moment to raise your glass to the folks in Vermont. Would that the rest of the country would should this sort of moral courage.

Yeah, like that’s going to happen….
