Is this why New Jersey is considered a swing state?

Ex-New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey has confirmed that he used to have threesomes with his wife and driver, covered in fried green beans and ranch dressing and performed on the Jack Daniels Grill at T.G.I. Friday’s. Hilariously, his wife completely denies it. Aaaaand her divorce cash-in has just dropped like a mozzarella stick into steamy marinara goo.

Say hello to Cleopatra, Queen of Denial…. ;-)

Man, you’d think that a well-to-do couple like the McGreeveys would do a better job of fattening up their prey than dragging him to TGI Fridays. If the idea is to feed ‘em and (&^% ‘em, wouldn’t the classy thing to do be to find an eatery with a bit more cachet than a chain restaurant? Then again, as I’ve heard somewhere, Applebee’s “eating good in the neighborhood” would seem to have a very different and oddly appropriate meaning here, no?

While this sorry episode certainly makes for some entertaining and titillating newspaper copy, and it sure as Hell isn’t going to help Mrs. McGreevey’s divorce case. I’m not sure any of this is important to anyone but the participants, but what difference should it make to anyone else? Who care if the McGreeveys shared their bed with the offensive line of the New York Jets? They could have been involved with farm animals…and I still wouldn’t be able to see the relevance, or how this is even remotely newsworthy. We’re talking about consenting adults, after all. If no one else is being hurt or even adversely impacted in some manner, why shouldn’t private sexual behavior remain private? Is our own collective miserable, pointless existence so thoroughly miserable and pointless that we’ve been reduced to living vicariously through the bedroom antics of public figures? How pathetic is that?

(Oh, and this just in: the applause had barely died from new New York Gov. David Paterson’s inaugural speech when the New York Daily News ran a story relating how Paterson has admitted that both he and his wife carried on extramarital affairs some years back. Oh, the humanity. Wait for it…the demands for his resignation should be coming in 4…3…2….)

Jeebus, people…how about we all remove our anteriors from posteriors and start concentrating on what we’re doing instead of holding our public officials to standards we’d never dream of holding ourselves to? Can we get over ourselves already??

Ah, America…land of the disturbingly self-righteous, home of the hopelessly hypocritical. Same as it ever was….
