It's time to go; you're an embarrassment to yourself and the Democratic Party

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

(apologies to Keith Olbermann)

Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY)

I’ve heard it from various sources that something like 19%-28% of supporters of each Democratic candidate would defect to John McCain if their candidate does not secure the nomination. In the interest of self-disclosure, I will freely admit to being a strong and committed supporter of Sen. Barack Obama, having endorsed him last August (And I would sooner have a battery acid enema that vote for John McCain). With that out of the way, you can take my opinion on this matter as you see fit.

Sen. Hillary Clinton, j’ accuse! YOU are the reason that this campaign has turned so vitriolic. If you had set a tone that said loud and clear, “We will play this game by the rules and maintain a positive tone to ensure the Democratic Party stays together behind the eventual nominee”, none of the anger, the bitterness, and the cutthroat maneuvering would exist. Yes, a spirited debate is always a good thing, but the idea is to find a candidate and come together behind that candidate. It’s not a coronation, and you are not next in line to the throne. In a democracy, sometimes you win and sometimes your lose- no matter how hard or how long you work. You may be the most passionate and committed candidate to come along since Catherine the Great, but that doesn’t mean you deserve to win.

You’ve increasingly conducted yourself as if the nomination is yours by right, and your surrogates have followed your lead to absurd lengths. You’ve turned this campaign into the electoral equivalent of The Night of the Long Knives with your “whatever it takes” demeanor. Whether it’s hinting obliquely at the idea of poaching delegates, seating delegates from Michigan and Florida (who ignored Party rules), or lying in a misguided effort to inflate your qualifications and “experience”, you’ve demonstrated your lack of integrity and lust for power. You’ve amply demonstrated that the only person bound to playing by the rules is your opponent. In your dogged pursuit of the Democratic nomination, you’ve shown time and again, you will examine ANY possible edge you might think you might gain, no matter how immoral, unethical, or just plain wrong.

It’s time to go, Senator. You’re an embarrassment to the party I love and all the hard work that Democrats have put in over the past eight years. You’re a disgrace to the Democratic Party and all we stand for. While you really should be skulking away in shame, I know that you feel perfectly justified in conducting a slash-and-burn campaign. Whether you’re too ignorant, arrogant, and/or self-absorbed to recognize the damage you’re doing, is something I really don’t care about. You need to disappear.

Please; do the right thing and drop out…before you completely destroy our chances in November.
