Meanwhile...on Planet McCain, reality is what you make of it

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

(apologies to Keith Olbermann)

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ)

“I know of no one who believes attention to Iraq at that point diverted our attention from Tora Bora,” McCain said. ‚Äö√Ѭ∂ “We should have put more boots on the ground there to apprehend [Bin Laden]. Everyone agrees. But I have no reason to believe that because we urged attention to Iraq, it had any tactical effect on the battleground.”

Whenever John McCain opens his mouth these days, I find myself wondering if he lives in the same world the rest of us mere mortals inhabit. Or does he reside in some sort of altered reality in which the truth is fungible and can be molded to whatever he needs it to be at a particular moment in time? Hey, everyone knows that Iran is training al-Qaeda operatives and sending them back into Iraq, right? (And if you don’t, you should.) If the American sheeple will swallow that line of crap, why wouldn’t they believe that the war in Iraq has had NO effect on the search for Osama bin-Laden?

Why? Because John McCain says so, that’s why. And it’s not as if this is a new phenomenon…not by any means. Back when his campaign was moribund- financially sucking wind and looking for ANY sort of traction with voters- McCain proved himself adept at adjusting his message to fit his audience. Truth? That’s for losers and Democrats (like there’s a difference).

The “Straight Talk Express” is the ultimate in oxymorons, because McCain couldn’t speak the absolute, immutable truth if his life (not to mention his candidacy) depended on it.

The reality is that the war in Iraq absolutely proved a drag on the search for bin-Laden. No matter how much McCain may try to convince voters otherwise, the war in Iraq had NOTHING to do with the war on terror. There was no terrorist threat in Iraq until Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader© created one out of whole cloth. Yes, we’re fighting the very terrorist threat BushWorld created. Not only that, but the war in Iraq was in effect what prevented American troops from pursuing bin-Laden and his compatriots in numbers sufficient to have any hope of success. The biggest reason Osama bin-Laden isn’t sitting in a cell in Guantanamo today is because The Worst President EVER © moved the goalposts to Iraq…and because Bush Lite © didn’t demand that the focus of American efforts remain on apprehending those responsible for 9.11.

It really is true; being a Republican means never having to say you’re sorry- AND being able to make up your own truth depending on what the circumstances of the moment demand. Perhaps instead of contributing to McCain’s presidential campaign, you should work on collecting enough money to buy the man a conscience. Lord knows he could use one….
