Over the past few days, I’ve fairly been inundated with emails and voicemails asking variations of one simple, yet profoundly disturbing question: “Jack, I’m concerned that sex scandals may be destroying our great nation. How DO sex scandals ruin our democracy? And what can we do to protect our precious, impressionable children?” (How in the world did so many of y’all get my new cellphone number? Did someone post it on Fleshbot again??) Well, I gotta tell you that I have NO idea how to protect your children- short of hermetically sealing them in child-size freezer bags and shipping them off to a remote Greek Island until they turn 35. As far as how sex scandals can ruin the American democratic experiment? Well, I could come up with a pretty fair explanation, but I’ll leave the intellectual and philosophical heavy lifting to someone more intellectually nimble than myself.
You know, sometimes it’s difficult to beat back the idea that having our own Politburo might not be such a bad thing after all….
