Today's sign that the Apocalypse is upon us

The buxom blond wife of a city cop yesterday said she humiliated her husband in front of 8 million viewers of the reality show “Moment of Truth” - revealing she slept around and wanted to be wed to another guy - in a bid for fame and fortune. But Lauren Cleri, 26, and her baby-faced hubby, rookie NYPD Officer Frank Cleri, 24, of Rockland County, said after appearing on the Fox show Monday night, they came away without any prize money, no immediate job offers for her - and a potentially irrevocably broken marriage…. “We’re kind of up in the air right now - I want to [get back together], but I don’t think he does,” Lauren said as she shared an umbrella with her husband outside their tiny apartment in Piermont…. “It’s not very easy to overcome,” said Frank, a cop with the 48th Precinct in The Bronx.

A few days ago I wrote about Fox’s new show, The Moment of Truth. As entertainment, The Moment of Truth ranks right up there with televised beheadings or public gang rapes. The desired effect is purely prurient in nature as the questions are designed to be highly personal and, if all goes according to plan, extremely embarrassing, if not irreparably injurious to relationships. I’m not going to take credit for an overabundant prescience, but you just had to know before something like this was going to happen. Emotional train wreck coming in 4…3…2….

Lauren Cleri sold out her husband, her marriage, and herself in the hope of striking it rich. In the end, she won exactly $0.00, (perhaps irretrievably) damaged her marriage, and ended up looking very much the heartless, conniving bitch. So, how’d that TV show work out for you, Ms. Cleri?

I’m not going to moralize here, because I think it’s clear that Ms. Cleri reaped what she sowed. I feel sorry for her husband, though, who probably had no idea he was about to be proven a cuckold and thoroughly humiliated on national television.

Join us next week when the Cleris appear on the next episode of “Divorce Court”….
