Victory or death....

Is it just me, or is Clinton campaign beginning to look AND sound an awful lot like something the Bushbots might have come up with? The self-righteous “Why…how DARE you?” response to uncomfortable questions, the “we’ll do whatever it takes” stance on delegate counts, the “all’s fair in love, war, and politics” slash-and-burn negative advertising…well, it’s disturbing, to say the least. That the Clintonbots ire and heavy artillery is directed towards a fellow Democrat ought to give ALL Democrats pause. WHAT IN THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE? Isn’t comparing Barack Obama to Kenneth Starr just a wee bit beyond the pale? Never mind just plain absurd? Is the Clinton campaign so desperate that they’ll do and say ANYTHING in the hope that something will stick? That would seem to be the case.

Now comes word that the death of Clintonian hypocrisy knows no bounds. Remember the faux controversy over an Obama adviser telling the Canadian government that the anti-NAFTA rhetoric was just so much “political positioning”? Well, it turns out that the Clinton campaign may in fact have been guilty of exactly the same thing. And you wonder why my respect for Hillary Clinton decreases with each passing day?

Is Sen. Clinton so determined to win that she’ll do whatever it takes…even if it means securing a Pyrrhic victory? That such a victory might come at the cost of losing in November- to John (&^%$#@ McCain- should be enough to keep our eyes focused on the ultimate prize…right?? Apparently not, because if you support HIllary Clinton, you’re apparently OK with doing whatever it takes to win…regardless of the ultimate cost.

I’m only making this assertion off of anecdotal evidence from the Texas Caucuses, but it seems that while the Obama campaign instructed their volunteers to follow the rules, supporters of Hillary Clinton were more than willing to do whatever it took to secure an advantage for their candidate. While I’m not going to blame Sen. Clinton directly, the tone for a campaign is set at the very top…and it’s her name on the banners, stickers, buttons, and ballots. IF the Clinton campaign had instructed their volunteers to follow the caucus rules, things might have run a bit more smoothly. My conversations with one precinct captain (an Obama supporter) in Texas created the impression that her Clinton-supporting counterpart was seriously looking for every possible edge she could get, even if it meant disenfranchising Obama supporters.

Democrats are better than this. Aren’t we??
