When in doubt, blame the victim

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

(apologies to Keith Olbermann)

Dr. Laura Schlessinger

[M]en do need validation. When they come into the world they’re born of a woman. Getting the validation from mommy is the beginning of needing it from a woman. When the wife does not focus in on the needs and the feelings sexually, personally, to make him feel like a man, to make him feel like a success, to make him feel like our hero, he’s very susceptible to the charm of some other woman making him feel what he needs. These days, women don’t spend a lot of time thinking about how they can give their men what they need…. [C]heating was his decision to repair what’s damaged, and to feed himself where he’s starving. But, yes, I hold women accountable for tossing out perfectly good men by not treating them with the love and kindness and respect and attention they need.

I realize that calling Dr. Laura The Worst Person in the World is hardly a stretch, but this is one of the most egregiously offensive example of a “blame the victim” mentality. By this line of thinking, Eliot Spitzer’s in the situation he finds himself in due to the decisions he’s made. So far, so good. Then, rather than just shutting up and leaving well enough alone, Schlessinger then goes on to blame Spitzer’s wife, Silda, for her husband’s infidelity. After all, this would have happened if she’d been giving her husband what he’s needed over the years…right?

So, let me see if I have this straight…if Silda Spitzer had only cared enough about her husband to let him schtupp her on the desk of the Governor’s office or blow him during a press conference, none of this would have happened? Yessirree, behind every great but horribly flawed man is a self-absorbed woman who’s been ignoring his needs while she cashes the checks for lo, these many years.

Anyone else buying what Schlessinger is selling? Then again, what can you reasonably expect from a woman most famous for the naked pictures of herself (NSFW) posted all over da Interweb? No, it’s not Ann Coulter naked…and we should probably all be thankful for that, no?

Is it just me, or are Schlessinger’s irrational, blame-the-victim musings just so much mental masturbation?

Jeebus, what a (&^%$#@ maroon….

Not surprisingly, Schlessinger is hardly unique in her offensive, pseudo-intellectual evaluation of Eliot Spitzer’s overworked zipper:

Meredith Vieira did a wonderful job throughout, pretending to be shocked when Schlessinger answered her question with the nutball response she expected when she specifically prompted Dr. Laura to let loose. Strangely, though, Schlessinger’s contribution to the discourse wasn’t the weirdest. That came from anthropologist Helen Fisher, who, while laudably rejecting the notion that Spitzer’s transgressions were anyone’s fault but his own, nevertheless added: “All you have to do is look at Eliot Spitzer. He has a high cheekbone and low brow ridges. Those are signs of very high testosterone.”

So there you have a solid range of opinion! Either Spitzer’s testosterone-fueled forehead should have tipped everyone off, or Silda Spitzer should have provided her husband with “attention.” The more you know!

To a degree, I suppose, we should hold the media accountable for giving face time to intellectual midgets who think they actually have some unique insight. What they have in overabundance is a need to get themselves in front of a camera so they can spew their madness to the four windows, where a significant portion of the audience will swallow it without question or examination.

Nice work if you can get it, eh?

Eliot Spitzer is in the position he finds himself in because of the decisions that he and he alone made…no ifs, ands, or buts. Silda is as responsible for her husband’s very public implosion as I am. As it turns out, on closer inspection, Eliot Spitzer is a liar, a hypocrite, and a cheat. He’s betrayed his wife, his children, and his constituents. This alone should be beyond sufficient reason for him to resign. If he refuses to do the right thing, he should be impeached- not for being a philanderer, but for his rank hypocrisy and dishonesty.

Say goodbye, Eliott…and can we PLEASE stop blaming Silda Spitzer? Must insult really be added to injury?
