Ohio Voter On 60 Minutes: I Hear Obama Is Muslim, Doesn’t Know National Anthem
In Chillicothe, people told 60 Minutes that both race and gender would both be hidden factors in southern Ohio - that many blue collar workers here won’t vote for a woman and others would never vote for a black. And Sen. Obama has another problem: a malicious campaign against him that surfaced in a number of our interviews. [Kenny] Schoenholtz told Kroft he is leaning towards Obama, but that there were a couple of issues he was “not too clear” on. Asked what they were, Schoenholtz said, “Well, I’m hearin’ he doesn’t even know the National Anthem, you know. He wouldn’t use the Holy Bible. He’s got his own beliefs, got the Muslim beliefs. Couple issues that bothers me at heart.” …. “You know that’s not true,” Kroft remarked…. “No. I’m just‚Äö√Ѭ∂this is what I’ve been told,” he replied.
Well, I suppose this would help explain why we’ve been saddled with eight years of lies, propaganda, ineptitude, and corruption, eh? When people are too lazy and stupid to think for themselves, when they believe whatever lies and smears the wind happens to blow their way…. When stupid people make stupid decisions for stupid reasons, we get stupid leaders…and exactly the quality of leadership we deserve.

It would be nice to think that Americans would make reasoned, informed decisions based on solid, defensible information. Yeah, and I believe in the Tooth Fairy and the Chicago Cubs will win this year’s World Series…. Instead, what we get is what seems to be a majority of Americans who just don’t give a (&^%, and who are fertile ground for whatever hateful propaganda happens to be fed to them. They’ll tell you that they wholeheartedly and unabashedly support their candidate (usually a Republican), but when you ask them why, it becomes clear that they’re an intellectual empty vessel full of propaganda, half-truths, innuendo, and outright lies that they’ve accepted as Gospel. Amazingly, these people will continually vote against their interests because…well, that’s what they’ve been told to do. And voting Republican sure beats the Hell out of thinking, doesn’t it?
I try very hard to be optimistic about the future of our country, but when I listen to the average “man in the street” interview that’s not an easy task. I’m not trying to be a snob here, and I understand that I’m exceedingly fortunate to have been blessed with an IQ close to 150, depending on which test you believe. My forebearance notwithstanding, we really are a nation of dunces. This forces politicians, most of whom aren’t exactly intellectual giants to begin with, to pander to the lowest common denominator in order to be successful. And what’s the best way to bring the ignorant and malleable over to your side? Yep, the tried and true “smear and fear”, as was amply demonstrated in the 2000 and 2004 Presidential elections. It’s no wonder we’ve been stuck with eight years of lies, propaganda, and innuendo.
