So what it comes down to is that you would win the nomination if Democrats were Republicans.
- Jon Stewart

A friend told me yesterday that she'd meet me for lunch today...if I wasn't picked up for putting a contract out on HRC. Needless to say, that set me to thinking...nah, I couldn't do that, unless wishing that she'd set herself adrift on an ice floe with a box of Captain America comic books and a revolver could be considered the moral equivalent. Besides, I think I'd roundly ignored anyway.
A few weeks ago I went on to hillaryclinton.com and wrote her a barely lucid and almost foaming-at-the-mouth note imploring her to do the right thing and commit seppuku before a grateful nation. What I got from her campaign was a canned response that- roughly translated- said:
Thank for your kind note of support for Hillary and her dream of standing up for everyday Americans just like you. In the midst of this crucial debate for the future of our country, Hillary needs your support now more than ever. Please take your VISA card out of your wallet and set it on the ground behind. Then drop trou, bend over, and grab your ankles. You'll feel a little prick, which will be followed immediately by the soft, warm glow of lies, propaganda, and spin worthy of Karl Rove and Lee Atwater. GO HILLARY!!
MUST. CONTROL. URGE. TO. PUKE.
I swear, when that smug, self-righteous grin pops up on my television screen, I've developed something of a conditioned reflex. Almost immediately, before I'm even fully cognizant of what's happening, I'm screaming "Shut the (&^% up!!" at the screen...like she's going to hear me. It's sad what a pathetic shadow of herself Sen. Clinton has become...and to think I once greatly admired her for her intelligence, her commitment, and her passion. Little did I know how quickly those admirable qualities would devolve into such a pathetic display of sophistry and self-delusion. Even the New York Times, which heartily endorsed HRC just three months ago, is calling on her to admit to the pathetic realy her candidacy has become:
It is past time for Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton to acknowledge that the campaign's negativity, for which she is mostly responsible, does nothing but harm to her, her opponent, her party and the 2008 election.
Indeed. There was a time, not so very long ago, when I had nothing but respect for Sen. Clinton. Now I'm wishing she'd just STFU and follow the slime trail back under the rock from whence she emerged.
Enough is enough, don'tchathink?? I'm sick of the depth to which this exercise in mental masturbation has sunk. It's time do the right thing, Sen. Clinton...or do you enjoy being an embarrassment to yourself and to the Democratic Party?
As if there's really any doubt as to what the answer to that question is....

I agree with you wholeheartedly and share your revulsion. My visceral response, in addition to yelling at the screen, is an overwhelming urge to throw something at the screen whenever HRC appears. But I press the Mute button instead because I'd miss my new flat panel TV.
Unlike you, I never held her in high esteem, but what little esteem I had for her has increased exponentially in a negative direction. Hopefully she'll make it to an ice flow before global warming completely eliminates the polar ice caps.
She can only get the nomination by going against the will of the people & the ballot box, and strong-arming the powers of the party. What's more elitist than that?
Everyday she hangs on to the erroneous belief she still has a chance is another day that the party will be divided and easier to beat by the united and hideous GOP front.
She's been beaten and lacks the foresight to do what is right for her party and the country. Sad because you know, deep down, she knows she's pissing in her own soup (why yes, I did just come up with that but I love it!).
Thanks, for that visual, Eric...and I'd been seriously thinking about having soup for dinner. Now I'm going to spend the rest of the evening trying to purge my mind of that mental image. Ughh.... ;-)
