Another day another Hill-arious "misstatement" from Hillary Clinton

In Eugene, Ore., Saturday. Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., attempted to change the measure by which anyone might assess who criticized the Iraq war first, her or Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., by saying those keeping records should start in January 2005, when Obama joined the Senate. (A measure that conveniently avoids her October 2002 vote to authorize use of force against Iraq at a time that Obama was speaking out against the war.) She claimed that using that measure, she criticized the war in Iraq before Obama did. But Clinton’s claim was false. Clinton on Saturday told Oregonians, “when Sen. Obama came to the Senate he and I have voted exactly the same except for one vote. And that happens to be the facts. We both voted against early deadlines. I actually starting criticizing the war in Iraq before he did.”

Here’s the great thing about being Hillary Clinton: not only do you get to make the argument, you also get to set the rules in a way designed to make you look good. Even if it stretches to truth to the point of breaking, if you get to make the rules, you’re never wrong.

That may work for Sen. Clinton, but all it really accomplishes is to make a mockery of the truth. Then again, this isn’t really about the truth, is it? It’s about winning, which in Sen. Clinton’s case isn’t everything. It’s the ONLY thing. Unfortunately for her, even if you play by Sen. Clinton’s rules, she STILL didn’t criticize the war in Iraq first. Yes, even when she cheats, she still doesn’t come out on top.

Good Lord; how long will this travesty be allowed to continue? Sen. Clinton has transcended merely playing fast & loose with the truth. Now, she’s making it up as she goes along…and doing a damn poor job of it.

Oh, by the way…that story about the poor woman in Ohio who was supposedly turned away from a hospital because she was indigent, only to later die because of it? Not only did the story apparently not happen in the way claimed by Sen. Clinton, she’s now dropped the story from her stump speech. Draw your own conclusions.

Will someone in the Democratic leadership (paging Howard Dean….) PLEASE put this sorry excuse for a campaign out of our misery? It’s long past time that Sen. Clinton’s embarrassment of a campaign was put out to pasture so that the real work of taking back the White House can begin.

Say goodbye, Hillary. Not only is it time to go, you’ve long since worn out your welcome.
