After months of debate, I finally broke down yesterday and bought myself an iPhone. It wasn't so much that I "needed" a new cell phone or a new iPod. My Motorola Razr was holding up just fine, thank you- as was my four-year-old U2-red-and-black iPod (you remember...back in the day when iPod screens were still greyscale?). No, this decision had nothing to do with "need"...and everything to do with "want". I wanted a new iPod at some point, and I'd been considering a Blackberry or some other flavor of smart phone. When I weighed the costs, an iPhone was a bit more expensive, but it did have advantage and convenience of being one device. For someone who can never find the one remote that I need, this was no small consideration. Now, when I lose my iPhone (which hopefully won't ever come to pass), I'll only have to scour the planet for one lost item.
I'm going to be pretty busy playing with my new toy today (and we just LOVE new toys, don't we??), so I may not be hanging around here much. Hey, it's the weekend, remember?? Go hug your kids, play golf, get laid...or whatever it is you do on the weekends...'cuz Lord knows I will be! Time permitting, I may even check out some coleslaw wrestling.

Welcome to the party, Jack! I've had my iPhone for a few weeks now and absolutely love it. It isn't perfect (they had to leave room for 2nd Gen improvements to keep the cash flowing) but it really has dramatically changed my life. Not bad for four hundred bucks! Have fun with yours, let me know if you decide to jailbreak yours, I'm still undecided about doing mine.
Thanks, Eric! It does seem as if it's going to be a whole lot of fun. Since I'm not paying for a land line, I think I'm basically breaking even, so I'm not too worried about the financial aspect. If I ever want to know what the time and weather it is in Sarjevo, I can find out almost instantly. My only complaint is that I wish the iPhone responded to a pointer of some sort. My fat little fingers make hitting the tiny keys on the QWERTY keyboard consistently somewhat problematical.
My God, I just LOVE tax refunds.... ;-)
