Crash and burn....

For what seemed like the longest time, Sen. Hillary Clinton was the universally-acclaimed rightful heir to the Democratic nomination…the “inevitable” nominee whose path to the White House would be virtually unimpeded by whatever meatball the Republicans served up for her to devour in the November general election. All systems were “go”…and it seemed nothing could, or would, go wrong. Boy, were we wrong or what??

Who knew that Sen. Clinton would veer to the Dark Side? Who knew that once her once clear path was impeded by Sen. Barack Obama, she would becoming increasingly combative, dark, and just plain mean-spirited? Her air of noblesse oblige and her campaign’s disdain for anyone who dared to question her “inevitability” has damaged, perhaps permanently, her standing amongst Democrats. Her lack of integrity, her embellishments, her lies, and her willingness to massage a good story to suit her purpose have called both her veracity and her integrity into question. To call her a liar may be harsh, but it does seem appropriate at this juncture.

What disappoints me the most is that I’ve admired Sen. Clinton for years. She’s accomplished, intelligent, and strong woman who’s done many, many good things during her distinguished career. Why she and her campaign have self-destructed as they have is something I simply can’t fathom. Was she so complacent and infused with such a outsized sense of entitlement that she was completely unprepared for Obama’s challenge and the pressures of a close race? Was she so arrogant that she just simply couldn’t conceive that anyone might dare to conspire to deny her the throne that was so rightfully hers?

Whatever the reasons are, she’s provided Republicans with a wealth of ammunition with which to attack her truthfulness and her integrity- IF she somehow manages to win the Democratic nomination. To their credit the Obama campaign has largely left Clinton to stew in her own lies and prevarications, but even I have to wonder how much longer that will continue to be the case. If Clinton is going to make the case that she’s more “electable”, it stands to reason that someone can- and should- use her lies and embellishments against her.

I never, EVER thought I’d have cause to call Sen. Clinton a liar. Now I fear there’s no way to avoid it…but then she’s brought this on herself, hasn’t she?

Say goodbye, Sen. Clinton. It’s time to go. WE DESERVE BETTER.
