Deja vu all over again

ELDORADO, Texas (CNN) — Ambulances rolled into a Texas ranch that’s home to members of a polygamist sect, as authorities continued their search Saturday night for possible victims of physical and sexual abuse. The emergency vehicles were called for as investigators prepared to search the group’s temple, law enforcement officials said. The sect is a rogue branch of the Mormon church, which forbids nonbelievers from entering its temples. Authorities wanted medical backup “in case they’re involved in sensitive areas that could escalate into a negative reaction,” a law enforcement source said…. Earlier, dozens more children and young women were removed from the compound. A total of 183 people, including 137 children, have been taken away since law enforcement officers raided the compound Thursday night, said Marleigh Meisner, a spokeswoman for the Texas Child Protective Services Division. The children — most of them girls — were being interviewed by special investigators, she said.

Once upon a time, in a land far, far way…OK, Waco, TX…there lived a Bad Prince. This prince believed that he was the human incarnation of the word of God, and he managed to attract many followers, some of whom were willing to fight and die for him and what he taught. The fact that the Bad Prince slept with women and young children seemed not to bother many, who clung to his every word as if he really was the mouthpiece of God. Eventually, though, the Dark Princess (Janet Reno) decided that the bad prince had gone too far in questioning the supremacy of the Death Star.

One day, the Dark Princess, with the implicit blessing of Clintonus Maximus, sent her storm troopers into the the Bad Prince’s realm with tank, flame throwers, and order to create havoc in order to depose the Bad Prince. Rather than convincing the Bad Prince and his followers to surrender, they fought back bravely and gamely. Though severely outgunned by the forces of the Death Star, the Bad Prince and his followers fought to the death- their own as well as those of many women and children. The Dark Princess had her victory, but conspiracy theorists throught the Kingdom now had plenty of grist for their mills.

Jeebus, y’all…wasn’t once enough? This latest episode may or may not end with many burning to death as they fought their own government, but sometimes I wonder if ANYONE really learned anything from the demise of David Koresh and his Branch Davidians?

Oh, and by the way…that this is happening in Texas once again is hardly a coincidence. Though Texas hardly has a corner on the religious nutjob department, there must be something in the water….
