If I ever go to Hell, which at this point is probably carrying better than 50/50 odds, I fully expect that I'll be greeted at the front gate by Linda Daves, chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party (which is certainly easier to say than North Carolina Knuckle-Dragging Troglodytes). Daves, who also answers to the nickname "Pretty Little Hate Machine" (apologies to Nine Inch Nails), not only deserves a reserved parking space when her time comes, she ought to go straight to the front of the line right now. Jeebus, what a (&^%$#@ troll....
Here in the 21st century, one might be forgiven for thinking, however fallaciously, that America has moved past its petty, racist past and into an era where all colors and hues are welcomed and treated with equal regard. For those of you naive enough to actually believe this, now would be as good a time as any to remove your blinders, because if you believe that this is an isolated incident...well, it's WAY past time for you to remove your anterior from your posterior.
Part of the problem here is that "North Carolina", "Republican", and "racism" go together like "peanut butter" and "jelly". I listened to an interview with Ms. Daves on NPR's All Things Considered yesterday afternoon., and I was stunned at the unadulterated, aggressive, I-don't-give-a-(&^%-what-you-or-anyone-else-thinks racism she espouses in the name of "truthfulness"...and she's just clueless enough to believe that she's absolutely doing the right thing. Well, White makes Right, no??
I'd been hoping, apparently in vain, that somehow we'd somehow find it within ourselves to be able to discuss issues that actually matter- the economy, health care, the war in Iraq, ad infinitum, ad nauseum. Yeah...and I still believe in the Tooth Fairy....
WE DESERVE BETTER than this hatred and divisiveness packaged as "truth".
If ever there is to be a Worst Person in the World Hall of Fame Shame, I fully expect Linda Daves to be at the head of the inaugural class. Perhaps she'll be able to get a weekend furlough from Hell so that she might attend her induction. Personally, I'd like to go just so I could kick her @$$ from here to Wednesday.
