I'm sure that the 4000+ who came home in flag-draped boxes would want in on the debate

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

(apologies to Keith Olbermann)

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ)

We can look back at the past and argue about whether we should have gone to war or not, whether we should have invaded or not, and that's a good academic argument.

This is perhaps one of the most despicable argument concerning the war in Iraq I've heard in some time. Though I understand the point Sen. McCain was trying- somewhat ham-handedly- to make, to refer to a war that has thus far wasted almost 4100 American lives as an "academic argument" is an insult at best and proof that he just doesn't get it at worst.

We've sat mutely by while Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © has sacrificed our sons and daughters in a war purchased by lies, propaganda, and fudged intelligence. No matter how hard he and his his fellow neoConservative thugs try to convince us otherwise, this war has NOTHING to do with the war on terror. There was no terrorist presence, no al-Qaeda in Iraq, until we invaded Iraq. If John McCain had even the barest shred of intellectual honesty and moral courage, he'd own up to this. Instead, he's hitched his star to The Worst President EVER © and his war machine.

I would never insult those Americans who've been sacrificed in Iraq by saying that their lives have been wasted, but I find it hard not to feel that way. What has been gained? Are we safer? More secure? Has the threat of terrorism against the Fatherland Homeland been diminished? Or did we simply create our own home-grown terrorist threat and then immediately thereafter the rationale for combatting that threat?

This war is no more an academic exercise than was McCain's time in a North Vietnamese prison. For him to suggest otherwise insults not only all Americans, but it's completely dismissive of those who lives have been sacrificed...and for what? We're not talking about pawns on a geopolitical chessbord here, Senator. These were real live human beings, with hopes, dreams, families- all the things that make life what it is. That they and their loved ones will never share those things is no mere academic argument.

For sheer hubris and lack of respect of those who lives have been sacrificed for no good reason, it's my profound displeasure to offer up today's Worst Person in the World- Sen. John McCain. May there be a special place in Hell awaiting your arrival, Senator.
