People might not check every purchase we make, we have a certain right to assume our shops and governments have a decent policy on that. My guess is that although people might technically be hypocrites to some extent for purchasing foreign, Chinese, products, in a functioning democracy, they would expect the government to be more cautious with those imports. Also one might not have the time to check every purchase, yet choose not to go on vacation in China based on moral outrage.
All in all just because governments and big buseniss fail to apply basic ethical standards, doesn’t mean consumers are suddenly the only responsible party.
