Former House Republican Leader Tom DeLay (Texas) called Barack Obama a "Marxist" on the Mike Gallagher radio show Thursday. Explaining that Obama clinching the Democratic nomination is a good thing for John McCain, DeLay said Obama's "weakness" is that "nobody knows him."... "And if McCain does not define him as what he is -- hey, I have said publicly, and I will again, that unless he proves me wrong, he is a Marxist," DeLay said. The radio host agreed with DeLay, who is facing money laundering charges, saying Obama is "desperately trying to cover up what seems to be the kind of old school Marxist radical liberal failed ideology."...."Absolutely," DeLay said. "No doubt about it."
It would seem that Tom DeLay didn't get the memo: it really IS better to be though a fool than to open your mouth and thereby remove any lingering doubt. What I truly cannot understand is how DeLay can even begin to believe that he retains even the barest shred of credibility. Well, actually he doesn't, unless you count his fellow mental midgets and moral reprobates...a club which apparently counts Mike Gallagher (find yer own damn link) as a charter member.
DeLay's problem is that he's no longer a relevant or credible voice...not that he ever really was. Having spent 10 years living in Texas CD22, DeLay's own private playground personal fiefdom, I can speak with some authority to DeLay's corruption, self-interest, and sheer perfidy with some authority. Having lied, cheated, and intimidated his way into becoming the most powerful man in Washington, DeLay was eventually done in by his own arrogance, ignorance, and his inability to remember why he was elected to Congress in the first place- and it wasn't to further his own self-aggrandizement.
Now we're supposed to honestly believe that DeLay has anything relevant to say? We're supposed to respect and value his political opinions? Right...and as you're reading this, pigs are violating Saudi Arabian airspace....
