Let the cattiness begin, eh?

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

(apologies to Keith Olbermann)

Cindy McCain

I'd really like to think that there might still be some boundaries in this Presidential campaign- you know, places, things, or people that might be allowed to remain above the fray? For me, Presidential spouses would be right at the top of this list. Beyond their qualities as human being, I could care less about what a candidate's spouse is all about. As long as she doesn't depend for sustenance on the still-beating hearts of young virgins, sho (&^%$#@ cares? When last I checked, a First Lady carries no legal authority. She can't declare war or sign legislation, so what difference does her view on anything really matter.

Unfortunately, in our hidebound society, First Ladies are expected to live within narrowly-defined boundaries. Heavenly help the woman who dares to express herself or try to escape the box. It's even worse when someone like Cindy McCain decides to unsheath her claws in a truly catty display of immaturity and silliness. You can almost feel the bitchiness dripping off her as she cattily disses Michelle Obama.

I don't much care what Mrs. McCain or Mrs. Obama have to say about anything. I'm sure their both intelligent, articulate people, and their respective success is undeniable. Nonetheless, neither one of them is running for President, so from where I sit, nothing they do or say should even remotely newsworthy. It's not as if either one of them is actually going to be able to do anything once their husband has taken the Oath of Office, right? So how about we concentrate on the two people who ARE running for President? Lord knows there's enough to deal with there as it is. Deconstructing Sen. John McCain's duplicity and doublespeak is almost a full-time job as it is....
