Make the crime big enough and you're a hero

MY NEW HERO #113: Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH)

The Senate Intelligence Committee's 200-page "Phase II" report on how the White House used -- and abused -- pre-war intelligence in the run-up to the war in Iraq is a stinging rebuke. The report doesn't use the word, but we all know what it's called when someone presents something as fact that's directly contradicted by the evidence. A lie. Not a mistake. A lie.

Here's a shocker: our government lied to us in order to get the war in Iraq that Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © and his neoConservative thugs wanted all along. And you have to know that, if this had been a Democratic President, he (or she) would have long since (and justifiably) been forced to defend himself in the well of the Senate during impeachment hearings. More than four thousand of our sons and daughters killed? Over lies and propaganda? Surely, someone's going to be held responsible, no? Well, the beautiful thing about being a Republican is never having to say you're sorry...or admit that you may have fudged the intelligence along the way.

And don't call me Shirley....

OK, so Rep. Dennis Kucinich offered 35 articles of impeachment on the House floor. Will this make even an iota of difference? From where I sit, it difficult to imagine. If a few Democrats could be roused from their moral slumber and convinced to do the right thing, perhaps justice could be within reach. Insted, Kucinich offered his articles of impeachment...and heard crickets in response. Why so many Democrats are willing to stand idly by in the face of so many undeniable (and impeachable) crimes is something I'll never understand. Bill Clinton was brought before the sense for the high crime and misdemeanor of getting his helmet polished by a zaftig intern in the Oval Office. The Worst President EVER © lies, spins, and propagandizes his way into an illegal and immoral war (and somewhere Josef Goebbels is smiling)...and he's waved through by a majority-Democratic Congress with the moral courage of the Cowardly Lion.

I understand that Democrats would rather run against the legacy of The Decider © this fall and that, politically speaking, it makes more sense to leave him in place. This is bigger than mere electoral politics, though; this is about a liar and war-monger willing to sacrifice young American heroes to get his war on simply because he could.

NOW CAN WE IMPEACH THE LYING, MURDERING BASTARD??

This is hardly intended to excuse his behavior, but at least no one died when Bill Clinton lied....
