Restoring racism and ignorance to their rightful place

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

(apologies to Keith Olbermann)

Grover Norquist

Grover Norquist -- the conservative activist who specializes in promoting an anti-tax agenda and, more generally, revels in the role of agent provocateur -- is offering a different comparison. Norquist dropped by The Times' Washington bureau today and, as part of his negative critique of Obama's liberal stances on economic issues and other matters, he termed the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee "John Kerry with a tan."

Ah, just when perhaps you might have been forgiven for daring to think that Conservatives had decided to refrain from dipping their toes in the racism pool...well, no forgiveness for you, eh? In what has to be one of the most stunning, offensive, and egregious examples of the depths of Conservative depravity, Grover Norquist- no intellectual giant, he- just provided a full-on view of the ugliness we can count on heading into the fall.

Norquist, who once famously said he'd like to shrink government down to the size where it was small enough that he could drown it in a bathtub, could just as easily have been talking about his own miniscule intellect and sense of common decency.

Decency? That's right; if you're a Far Right Conservative wingnut, it's whatever it takes to win an election. If you have to subject your ideological enemy to a death by a thousand cuts...well, sometimes ya just gotta do what ya gotta do...knowwhutimean??

The worst thing about this? It's that if you listen for it...shh...wait for it...ah, there it is...what you hear emanating from the Far Right is absolute silence. If any of these fools possessed even the barest shred of simple human decency, they'd step up and denounce Norquist as the racist bigot he is. After all, this sort of racism and ignorance has no place in politics. Right? Um...hello??? Where we should be expecting to hear outrage and denunciation of outright bigotry and ignorance, we hear...nothing. Absolutely nothing. Can there be any remaining, lingering doubt about what the Far Right stands for in this election cycle? If you're still not convinced, you might as well just turn in your voter registration card right now...because you clearly don't give a (&^%.
