So how long before the cavity searches?

It's bad enough that those of us who must fly have to suffer the indignities that we do...none of which do much of anything to keep the flying public safe from a terrorist attack. Technology being what it is, though, it's no doubt only a matter of time before the truly egregious violations of our personal space and privacy become an undeniable reality. With the advent of the latest body scanners, that time may already be here. These scanners can peer under the clothes of passenger, which, from a security standpoint might be a good thing, but from a privacy standpoint...well, it sucks. Yes, I understand the need for protecting the American flying public, and I'm all for technology that helps ensure that. I'm just not convinced that violating a traveler's privacy is what provides that...unless it really is about the perception of safety. As long as the American sheeple FEEL safe, it's all good, no?

Someone tries to board a plane with a bomb in their shoes...ergo, we must all take our shoes off and put them through the scanner. So what happens, then, when someone tries to board a place with a bomb in their BVDs (Is that a bomb in your shorts...or are you just glad to see me??)? At some point, don't we have to give some thought to what's being done to protect use, or does TSA merely react reflexively and we all acquiesce like the mindless sheep we apparently are?

Yeah, but we sure do FEEL safer, don't we??
