Just another day in Paradise...or about as close as I'm gonna get to it....

Ah...so Happy July 4th, y'all.... I'm actually working today, so I won't be partaking of the usual drunken, licentious bacchanalia, but it's not as if I'm going to have a whole helluva lot to do today, either. Perhaps a phone call or two...or perhaps not. I do have a lot of time to think, however...which isn't always such a terrific thing. Today, though, I have my frame of mind on pretty straight, so no worries, eh??

On a day like this, I find it useful to stop and realize that I really do have a lot to be thankful for. When I look around me, I realize that things could really be a whole lot worse. It's not that I'm tempering my expectations or settling for less than I "deserve" (though I know not what the Hell that means). All in all, I'm in a pretty good place. Not a great place, but certainly a good one. I can feed myself, I have a roof over my head, and the electricity's still on. Not bad, all things considered. Yeah, some things could be better...but I imagine that's probably true for all of us, no?

I hope that all y'all will be able to spend a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable day with your family and loved ones. I won't be doing the same, but that's OK. If I have to work one holiday a year (and I do), this is the one I'd choose...and so here I am.

Party on, Garth...and if you really feel like celebrating, how about dancing on Jesse Helms' grave? No joke. I'm not normally one to celebrate the passing of an individual, but when we're talking about someone as loathsome as Helms truly was...well, I think I can make an exception, don't you?? And I can hardly wait for the nauseating, self-serving eulogies to begin spewing forth from Conseratives. Just thinking about it makes me want to take a shower....
