The Daily News of Galveston County, Texas reports that former top Bush aide Karl Rove is scheduled as the keynote speaker at the Texas Realtors Association's convention in San Antonio this September. When local realtors Karen Derr and Alice Melott heard the news, "they were appalled.".... In fact, Derr, Melott, and other area Realtors have "launched an e-mail campaign to persuade the association's leaders to strike Rove from the speaker lineup." "What kind of message are we sending to the public we seek to serve by our very invitation to such an infamous politico?" Melott said in a letter to association leaders.
It's got to be tough being a truly miserable human being. I can't imagine that being a pariah in the truest sense of the word is an easy burden to have to bear, but being almost universally shunned and reviled has got to suck...not that I would know, thankfully. Still, it's not as if Karl Rove hasn't brought it on himself be being truly one of the worst, most objectionable people in American life today.
There are still people out there willing to overlook his role in one of the worst, most incompetent Administration's in this nation's history. These are the people who invite Rove to lucrative speaking engagements in the belief that he has something of value to add to the public discourse. It's going to take more people like Derr and Melott standing up and screaming for Rove to become the public pariah he so richly deserves to be. That this would happen in Texas puts a smile on my face- because if Rove can be shunned there, he can-and should- be shunned anywhere.
It will be a good day when Karl Rove has to get a job flipping burgers at Jack in the Box in order to support his family. It's more than he deserves, but then even a pariah deserves to be able to earn a living, eh?
