So much for keeping the campaign on the "high road", eh??

John McCain is an honorable man who is running an increasingly dishonorable campaign. Senator McCain knows full well that Senator Obama strongly supports and honors our troops, which is what makes this attack so disingenuous. Senator Obama was honored to meet with our men and women in uniform in Iraq and Afghanistan this week and has visited wounded soldiers at Walter Reed numerous times. This politicization of our soldiers is exactly what Senator Obama sought to avoid, and it's not worthy of Senator McCain or the 'civil' campaign he claimed he would run," said Obama campaign spokesman Tommy Vietor.

Remember when John McCain promised to keep this Presidential campaign on the high road? Well, if there was any lingering doubt about McCain's wavering commitment to running a fair and decent campaign, this ought to disabuse you of that notion. Yet another baseless personal attack attack on Barack Obama, and any reasonable person could be forgiven for coming to the (accurate) conclusion that McCain is a (&^%$#@ liar and no different from any other "win at any and all cost" Republican. Of course, when you're desperate and you have nothing of any value to offer, even lies and a controversy made up out of whole cloth start to look pretty good.

As an American citizen, I'm disappointed that a candidate trying to convince me that he's a competent and visionary leader can demonstrate himself to be such an accomplished liar and thug. I might (emphasis on "might") be willing to give McCain the benefit of the doubt (but for the reality that he's a Republican), except for the fact that he's surrounded him with a collection of surrogates who can only charitably be described as "attack dogs". Yeah...polite, rational debate is for losers and Democrats, eh?

How low will John McCain sink? Well, this ought to give you an idea....

"What a welcome change it would be were presidential candidates in our time to treat each other and the people they seek to lead with respect and courtesy as they discussed the great issues of the day," Mr. McCain wrote in a letter to Mr. Obama proposing weekly town hall meetings. With these latest comments, Mr. McCain falls short of the standards he set out.

Not that anyone can reasonably claim to be surprised, of course. Like after 2000 and 2004, any American with half a functional brain would take a Republican's promise of civility and decency at face value....

Thankfully, at least one media outlet is growing tired of the broken promises and the vacuous, mean-spirited attacks on Obama about things that just frankly really don't matter. I want to know about issues. I want to know how McCain proposes to end the war in Iraq, to fight the war on terror, to wean this country off foreign oil...and I want specifics. What I don't want is the constant drumbeat of ad hominen attack on Barack Obama in the hope that something- ANYTHING- might stick.

The problem now is that the Obama campaign has to figure out a way to fight back without looking small or appearing as if they're sinking to McCain's level. Neither can they afford to be seen as standing idly by while McCain and his surrogates attack dogs level ever more scurrilous charges against their candidate.

The worst part of this is that it's only July. As Election Day nears, the lies, the innuendo, and the character assassination will only escalate. Things will only get worse as Republican hatchet men pull out every stop to smear Obama and deflect attention from the empty suit who's their party's standard-bearer.

Sadly, the American Sheeple won't do a thing about it, because we just don't (&^%$#@ care enough to stand up and demand that Republicans talk about issues. It seems that we're perfectly satisfied with lies, damn lies, propaganda, and character assassination. If nothing else, this would certainly explain eight years of Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader ©, eh??

VOTE REPUBLICAN...IT'S EASIER THAN THINKING!!
