Well, Americans have consistently rejected the George McGoverns and the Michael Dukakises, the people who clearly and unapologetically are out there on the left -- the Walter Mondales who said, I'm going to raise your taxes. So when liberals are honest about being liberals, they get beat. I think it's a situation -- you know, you had the little clip of Jesse Helms at the opening of the show, and I'm thinking, what a contrast. The thing that many of us loved and admired about Jesse Helms was that, here was a guy, he didn't care what you thought about his view, but you were going to always know where he stood because he stood for something and he stood clearly. I think we're not seeing that in Barack Obama especially in relationship -- to his position on the war.
So Mike Huckabee admires the fact that Jesse Helms was a racist...and stood for racism and divisiveness?? And then he has the gall to denigrate Sen. Barack Obama for a lack of conviction? Yeah, we always knew what Helms stood for and where he stood- because his racism and homophobia was impossible to miss. Apparently, in Huckabee's book this sort of "conviction" is both laudable and admirable?
Yessirree...it was just this sort of "conviction" that led Helms to call the late Rev. Martin Luther King a "sex pervert" and a "Communist" (and, even worse, probably a Red Sox fan). It was just this sort of "conviction" that led Helms to filibuster against the creation of a national holiday honoring Rev. King. It was just this sort of "conviction" that I frankly hope will result in Helms roasting in Hell.
He fought against funding AIDS research because he said the disease resulted from "unnatural" and "disgusting" homosexual behavior. He also waged vicious campaigns exploiting racial tensions. One ad he helped create demagogued, "White people, wake up before it is too late. Do you want Negroes working beside you, your wife and your daughters, in your mills and factories?"
Yeah...now this is just the sort of person that deserves to be lionized as a true American hero. How long before a federal building or a ballpark is named after him? How long before his hatred and divisiveness have been completely forgotten because the propagandists have convinced the American Sheeple that Helms was a kind, gentle, and horribly misunderstood soul? How long will I have to fight the urge to puke every time I hear a Conservative eulogize Helms as a Conservative icon, and man of conviction, and a standard-bearer for the cause?
It's unsettling that Huckabee thinks Obama should take his cues from a man who believed that "[c]rime rates and irresponsibility among Negroes are a fact of life."
Yes, it is...because it proves just how little the American Sheeple have been paying attention over the years. You'd think that in this day and age we'd be able to recognize racism, hatred, and stunning ignorance combined with a complete lack of public compassion for what it is. We've [not exactly] come a lonq way, baby....
