Yeah, it may look like it's over, but until the fat lady sings on November 4th....

I don't care if footage of Obama snorting coke off Scarlett Johansson's boobs surfaces in late October. All it will do is bolster his standing with white males. I don't care if McCain is introduced by a resurrected Jesus Christ at the convention. All it will do is piss off Joe Lieberman. McCain won't just be defeated, he'll be crushed. And not just Bob Dole crushed, but crushed in a way that redefines the political map for the next 25 years.

There are those out there who think that, despite what the various polls may indicate, there is no way John McCain can defeat Barack Obama on November 4th. Perhaps they're right...and Lord knows I'd like to think they are. After all, it's difficult to envision the electoral college math working out in McCain's favor under the rosiest of scenarios, but.... Hey, haven't we already seen Republicans steal a Presidential election (possibly two)?

The thing I keep coming back to is that there's still four months left until Election Day. To say that a lot could happen would be something of an understatement. What's more, a lot could be MADE to happen. Who will be this year's Swift Boat Veterans for Truth? With Fox News Channel actively pedaling the canard that Obama is a Muslim, who knows what so many sheeple will be thinking come Election Day??

I'd like to think that Democrats this time are facing the very real possibility of kicking ass and taking names...and yet.... There are just too many nefarious possibilities out there for any of us to be feeling as if this is all a done deal. We sat idly by while John Kerry's candidacy was eviscerated by lies and propaganda...and it wasn't like Kerry did much to help his case. Are we really supposed to think it couldn't happen again?

No, four months is far too long to be entertaining the possibility that a landslide is in the making, though few things would be more satisfying. Personally, I'd like nothing better than to see McCain achieve results similar two George McGovern in 1972 or Walter Mondale in 1984...and it may well happen. Perhaps then we can finally begin the work of taking this country back. You can bet that those currently in control aren't going to give up their perks without a fight...so how about we hold off on the premature celebrations until we at least have something to celebrate?
