Fiddling while Rome smolders

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

(apologies to Keith Olbermann)

Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX)

The news this past week that the Iraqi government is hoarding a surplus of as much as $79 BILLION dollars couldn't have come at a worse time. With the additional revelation that the Bush Administration faked a letter used as one of the justifications for going to war with Iraq, support for the war in Iraq isn't exactly effusive among the American Sheeple. Combine this with the news that the economy is tanking while Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © acts like the Boy in the Bubble...and it really does seem like Republicans in Washington just really don't give a damn. Either that, or they've been swilling the KoolAid for so long now that they act believe the crap they're peddling. I suppose you can afford to do that when you know you're not going to be held accountable.

Texas Sen. John Cornyn, the very definition of the term "empty suit", seems to exist for the sole purpose of providing cover for the failed policies of The Worst President EVER ©. If the man's had an original thought during his time in Washington, he's certainly managed to keep it to himself. Not only that, Cornyn apparently has no problem with the reality that the Iraqi government is perfectly happing taking American handouts and playing American taxpayers for fools.

BLITZER: Sen. Cornyn, there are a lot of Americans who feel that the Iraqis are playing the U.S. for suckers.

CORNYN: Well, I think, you know, we've fought long and hard to get to this position where now there is a hope that Iraq can govern and defend itself, Wolf. If we had simply quit as Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Obama wanted us to do early on, we wouldn't be having this discussion. There wouldn't even be the hope of a self-governing democracy of an Arab world in the Middle East. This ought to be a subject of negotiations between two sovereign powers.

Only a Republican drone of Cornyn's ilk could spin this egregious incompetence on the part of BushCo into a stunning endorsement of "staying the course". Sure, Iraq got's a bunch of money squirreled away, but to Cornyn's way of thinking that should be seen as vindication of American resolve and the courage of our brave men and women in uniform. Not only that, the fact that he can do it with a straight face serves as convincing proof that Republican just don't give a (&^% about being played by the Iraqi government.

American taxpayers- while our own economy is circling the drain- have paid the freight for Iraq's government while they've stashed away a mountain of money without being accountable or expected to pitch in. Why should they worry, when the American government's credibility has been so firmly yoked to Iraqi fortunes that they were willing to toss untold billions down the rat hole that is Iraq?

NOW CAN WE IMPEACH THE LYING BASTARD??
