Finally, someone in the Mainstream Media does their homework

MY NEW HERO #125: Frank Rich

What is widely known is the skin-deep, out-of-date McCain image. As this fairy tale has it, the hero who survived the Hanoi Hilton has stood up as rebelliously in Washington as he did to his Vietnamese captors. He strenuously opposed the execution of the Iraq war; he slammed the president's response to Katrina; he fought the "agents of intolerance" of the religious right; he crusaded against the G.O.P. House leader Tom DeLay, the criminal lobbyist Jack Abramoff and their coterie of influence-peddlers.... Most Americans still don't know, as Marshall writes, that on the campaign trail "McCain frequently forgets key elements of policies, gets countries' names wrong, forgets things he's said only hours or days before and is frequently just confused." Most Americans still don't know it is precisely for this reason that the McCain campaign has now shut down the press's previously unfettered access to the candidate on the Straight Talk Express.

One of the truly sad things about this Presidential campaign is the large numbers of the American Sheeple who are willing to swallow the canard that John McCain is "The Original Maverick". How being an adaptable careerist willing to say or do anything that might increase his electability is something that defies description...much less rational explanation? Now that I can believe...because it's the truth.

Finally, it appears that someone in the Mainstream Media has finally gotten off their ass and looked into the reality that is John McCain. I can't imagine that it took a whole lot of digging for Frank Rich to discover what most of us on the Left have known for years: that John McCain is an empty suit who couldn't lead his way out of a wet paper sack. Of course, with careful image management, even Jeffrey Dahmer would come out look like a militant vegetarian. McCain is at least savvy enough to surround himself with two capable groups: one that will do his dirty work for him, trashing Barack Obama at every opportunity, truth be damned. The second group will carefully massage McCain's public persona, ensuring that their man is seen in the most favorable light imaginable, truth be damned. In the end, it's not about doing what's best for this country. It's about doing what's best for enhancing John McCain's electability. It's about managing and massaging the propaganda required to convince the American Sheeple that McCain is a decisive and resolute leader...and frankly, it doesn't take much.

The reality, of course, is that John McCain is that same dull, uninspiring intellect who finished literally at the bottom of his class at the US Naval Academy. Yes, McCain makes the C-Student-in-Chief © look like some sort of freakin' brainiac...and yet almost half the American Sheeple are willing to vote for the candidate who's nothing if not an intellectual blank slate.

They call me tabula rasa....

I suppose there are two ways to look at this. One, that half the American Sheeple just aren't wired the same way I am. I don't expect people to think as I do...but is it too much to expect them to THINK?? Two, half the American Sheeple are just too (&^%$#@ lazy and stupid to pay attention, and simply can't be bothered to intelligently evaluate the candidates. If they would at least make a minimal effort, I can't help but believing that McCain's poll numbers would be down in the same realm as President 28% ©. Then again, the continuing collective intellectual and moral stupor certainly explains the past eight years, eh? If recent history has proven anything thing, it's that we're a national of uncritical sheep who sooner react rather than engage in anything resembling critical thought.

VOTE REPUBLICAN. IT'S EASIER THAN THINKING!!
