Uh...so how many morons can dance on the head of a pin??

(thanks to David Flanders for the video)

What is it about this John McCain ad that makes some think that Barack Obama is the Anti-Christ? We'll break it down for you....

While on the elliptical machine at the gym last night, I was captive to Campbell Brown's nightly exercise in mental masturbation political analysis on CNN. Normally, I'd sooner watch rats mating than Campbell Brown, but it was on the TV monitor in front of me, so I figured that I should at least be grateful I wasn't being force-fed Faux News Channel. Yes, Campbell Brown is to political analysis what 32 fl. oz. of arsenic is to assisted suicide, but there was one segment that simply left me agape at the sheer stupidity. Yes, Virginia, Brown and her panel spent several minutes discussing whether or not Barack Obama is the Anti-Christ, parsing the subject with the same gravitas that would go into analyzing energy or foreign policy.

The fact that so-called "journalists" can seriously discuss the subtle, subliminal portrayal of Barack Obama as the Anti-Christ only serves to demonstrate how low the level of public of discourse has sunk. When this sort of crap can be passed off as "fair and balanced", Campbell Brown almost seems the pinnacle of the journalistic art. Is it any wonder, when so many Right-wing media outlets treat intellectual and moral midgets like Jerome Corsi as if he was the Second Coming of Albert Einstein? How sad is it, and how low have we sunk, when the Obama campaign feels it necessary to rush out a 41-page rebuttal in response to Corsi's insult to, and frontal assautl on, every American's intelligence? Then again, how many of the American Sheeple have unquestioningly swallowed the "Obama as Anti-Christ" theme as if it was wisdom from the Almighty His Own Self??

My God, have we become a nation of (&^%$#@ brain-dead sheep, or what??

Tim LaHaye or James Dobson (can't keep those two nutcases straight) have signaled the all clear to voters about Obama. Seems they have determined, based on some interpretation of scripture only they are capable of making, that Obama is not, in fact, the Anti-Christ.

What a relief. I had been up nights worrying about this. Evidently, if I understand their interpretation (and I pray to Lord Jesus I will never truly understand these people) that the scripture clears Obama because the Anti-Christ isn't an American. Whew!

Of course, a logical person (which automatically excludes anyone who listens to a single word LaHaye or Dobson have to say) might wonder, gee how is it that the author of whatever ancient scripture/superstition/fairy tale they are citing might have known about the political boundaries of a nation that was two thousand years in the future - and in a part of the planet that these nomadic, uneducated and isolated people didn't even know existed? Details, details.

And now Houston's own Kirbyjon Caldwell, a respected Methodist minister who gave the benediction at George W's. first inauguration and who officiated at the Bush daughter wedding, has endorsed Obama, even appeared in a campaign video attesting to Obama's Christian values.

You'd think the wing nuts would be a bit embarrassed, but I know they are not. But I am embarrassed for our democracy that this is the current state of our political discourse.
