Now do you understand what not paying attention has cost us?

For the nitwits who vote for the man or woman they'd most like to have over for dinner, or hang out at a barbecue with, I suggest you take a look at how well your 401(k) is doing, or how easy it will be to meet the mortgage this month, or whether the college fund you've been trying to build for your kids is as robust as you'd like it to be.... The G.O.P. has done a great job masking the terrible consequences of much that it has stood for over the decades. Now the mask has slipped. As we survey the wreckage of the American economy and the real-life suffering associated with the financial crackup of 2008, it would be well for voters to draw upon the lessons of history and think more seriously about the consequences of the ballots they may cast in the future.... Voting has consequences.

bush-satan.jpgIf I were a lesser person, I'd be feeling vindicated right about now. It's hard to take satisfaction out of the reality that our economy (and our nation) is completed FUBAR. The American Sheeple allowed themselves to be propagandized into turning the cookie jar over to Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © and his neoConservative thugs. Yeah, but at least dem evil Libruls weren't in the White House, knowwhutimean??

Because Americans voted based on who they'd rather have a beer with, we are where we are, (&^%$# beyond repair and with months, perhaps years, of continued suffering in front of us. Nice work, y'all. Through your ignorance, your refusal to pay attention, and your intellectual and moral sloth, you elected a man who single-handedly has managed to turn the greatest, most powerful nation in the world into the world's largest economic and moral basket case. Granted, some of what is now happening may have been an inevitable part of the normal economic cycle, but Republican greed and incompetence are stamped all over this crisis.

So you think your vote doesn't matter? You think that all politicians are the same? You believe that both parties are merely mirror images of one another? If you're stupid enough to believe that, why don't you do this country a favor and stay home on Election Day? Seriously. If you can't be bothered to exercise a few brain cells and honestly assess the candidates and the issues, your vote IS a waste, and will likely do more harm than good. Stay home, have a few beers, shtup your cousin, shoot some cans off the back fence, and let those of us who actually give a damn elect the next President.

Democracy is something that doesn't just happen. It takes effort, thought, and a willingness to think critically, ask tough questions, and demand answers. If you're one of the fools who cast their votes in the past two Presidential elections based on who they'd rather have a beer with, I really wish you'd do all of us a favor and turn in your voter registration card. Clearly, you don't deserve to be carrying one. How about letting those of us who give a damn take this one over?
