Liddy Dole is dropping like a stone in the polls and so the best that the National Republican Senatorial Committee can do at this point is to go after the one group probably more reviled than teh gayz in the mind of the wingnuts - atheists. First the Dole campaign released a ridiculous mailer....
Man, the stench of Republican desperation is becoming almost overpowering, eh? How panicked must a politician be when they countenance this sort of pointless smearing of an opponent who committed the unpardonable sin of talking to people who...don't believe in God??
The most vile, radical Liberals in America? I would take offense at that one myself, seeing as how I'm both Liberal and most definitely NOT a Christian. Then again, why should these morons and their opinion of me and those like me matter a damn? Why would I give ANY importance to the self-important bleatings of Liddy Dole and her supporters? They can pound sand for all I care.
No, it's not Christianity that bothers me; it's Christians who give me the creeps. How arrogant and self-important must one be to seriously believe that God is a Republican? How ignorant must one be to seriously believe that not being a Christian somehow makes one a "lesser" American, and that only a belief in God makes one a "real" American? This mailer does a pretty good job of answering that question, eh?
Yes, I realize and understand that democracy can and far too often does mean appealing to the lowest common denominator when you're behind late in a campaign. And I understand that freedom of speech and expression also can make for extremely offensive speech and expression. Still, would it be too much to expect simple common decency from Liddy Dole? After all, while the sentiments expressed in the mailer or the accompanying political ad may not necessarily reflect her views, they were released under her name and designed to pander to those who believe that God is a Republican and both blesses and support Conservative Republican candidates. Ergo, Liddy Dole is responsible for these disgusting slanders...and therefore, in my mind at least, she is unworthy of six more years in the Senate. The good and decent people of North Carolina deserve better.
Given that Liddy Dole and her supporters clearly believe that God is on their side, here's to hoping that they roast in the Hell they so richly deserve.
