Denial: yeah, it ain't just a river in Egypt, knowhutimean??

One of the most interesting trends to emerge from Tuesday's election is the degree of denial prevalent on the Right. This piece is indicative of a growing "Oh, well, we didn't really want it, anyway" trend that seems to be the way so many on the Right are rationalizing their embarrassing loss on Tuesday. Let's get one thing straight, shall we? Y'all had your asses handed to you on Tuesday. Obama doubled up on John McCain- USC to McCain's Washington State (a 69-0 blowout), if you will. All that's really left is for those on the losing end of the election to rationalize their embarrassment. If you read the comments after Michelle Jennifer R. Santos' pointless screed, you'll understand what I'm talking about. Try to engage these folks, and what you get is a lot of smug self-righteousness...which is interesting, considering that not only did their party lose significant ground on Tuesday, it was also thoroughly and completely embarrassed. You'd think these folks would recognize that and understand that they can either be part of the change coming to this country, or they can continue pursuing their own narrow self-interest and tossing pointless, smug, mean-spirited insults at those of us who made the choice for change. You can get on the bus, or you can run the risk of being run over by the bus. Your choice, y'all.

Of course, I'm not particularly surprised that folks like this are reacting the way they are. Republicans as a rule have never dealt well with unpleasant realities. To their way of thinking, they lost because their candidates didn't run good campaigns. What they fail to realize, and time will likely not change, is that Republicans got their butts whipped because their President has led this nation into and through eight years of ineptitude and incompetence. Between the economic mess and a wasteful war in Iraq, the legacy of Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © will be fodder for comedians, not historians. What history will no doubt reflect are the opportunities squandered and the inept, ineffective, self-interested leadership exercised by The Decider © over the past eight years. George W. Bush, has, without a doubt, been The Worst President EVER ©. That's the undeniable reality. Those on the losing end of this election can deal with it or continue to live in denial. I frankly don't care. There's important work to be done; if they want to be part of it, they're welcome to come along for the ride. Otherwise...well, I hope they'll enjoy their time wandering in the political wilderness. With any luck, they're going to be there awhile.
