When being called "The Worst Person in the World" doesn't begin to do justice....

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

(apologies to Keith Olbermann)

Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R-NC)

How desperate is my ineffective, completely offensive current Senator? Elizabeth Dole, even though she has been scorched in the media (national, state, and local) for her initial "Godless" ad. I noticed that the ad suddenly disappeared from the airwaves (a feeble anti-immigration commercial took its place. Now she and her fellow sleazebags are taking another crack at it with a re-edit, removing the female voiceover "There is no God!" out and turning it into a lame guilty by association bit....

As if proving what a low-balling sleaze she is wasn't enough, Liddy Dole has compounded her sliminess with a classic "yeah, but...." attack ad. How desperate does a politician have to be to indulge in this sort of highly offensive, low-class mudslinging? Dole might have at one point ended her career by leaving a legacy of dignity and class. At one point. Now, she's revealed herself to be the worst sort of Karl Rove/Lee Atwater disciple, willing to do or say whatever it takes to get elected.

No one deserves to be trashed the way Dole has insulted and demeaned Kay Hagan...and there's no reason that Hagan, or anyone else, should find themselves in a position where they feel they have to respond to the sort of low-class character assassination Dole has trafficked in. Hagan, who's an elder at her Presbyterian Church, apparently doesn't feel the need to marginalize and ignore a class of Americans who happen not to believe in God. She may not share their beliefs, but their votes count just as much as good, God-fearing White Christians, so why not treat them as equal partners? Why not treat them with the love and compassion called for in the teachings of Jesus Christ? Oh, right...this has NOTHING to do with Christianity. It has everything to do with convincing North Carolinians that Kay Hagan is NOT "one of them".

Not believing in God doesn't mean they want to drink the blood of our children or that they want to force Communism upon us all. Besides, doesn't freedom of religion also mean freedom FROM religion? Is atheism not also a valid theological belief system? Or must one have the correct imaginary friend in order to be considered worthy of fully participating in the American political system?

Where is your dignity, Senator? Have you no sense of decency? Or are you so addicted to power that you are willing to do and say anything that you deem necessary to maintain your hold on that power? As if I need to answer that question....

Senator Dole, you ought to be ashamed of yourself. Then again, given the caliber of the campaign you've run against Kay Hagan, shame is clearly not part of your vocabulary. You are an embarrassment- to the Senate, to North Carolina, and to yourself. You've dishonored our democratic system, your legacy, and your record of public service. All that's really left for you is to crawl back under the rock from whence you emerged.

And to answer your question, Senator: if godless Americans threw a party in my honor (and the Godless Americans PAC didn't honor Hagan at this dinner), I would asbolutely go. Why? Why not?? Their beliefs (or, in your view, the lack of same) are only part of who they are. Not believing in your flavor of imaginary friend makes them neither more or less American than you. Or have your forgotten why this country was founded in the first place? If memory serves, it was founded by those fleeing religious persection back home in England...the short of persecution you seem perfectly comfortable with.

Yes, it's true; those who do not know history are condemned to repeat it. Any you, Senator, have amply demonstrated that, not only have you lost sight of history, you've proven yourself to be the worst sort of power-mad Republican thug. I know you aren't, but you really ought to be ashamed of yourself.

WE DESERVE BETTER.
