One thing I do miss about Texas is the politics

From mi compadre John Cobarruvias comes news of one of the exploits of perhaps the biggest oxymorons in Texas Politics: the Texas Ethics Commission. Theoretically speaking, if you're going to go to all the trouble to have an ethics watchdog, don'tcha think that said watchdog would at least...oh, I don't know...follow it's own rules?? After all, the name isn't the "Texas Situational Ethics Commission"...or am I just missing something here? OXYMORON ALERT!!!

Yes, Virginia; this is what you get when you live in a state where the population reflexively and unthinkingly votes Republican. Accountability? In Texas? For a Republican? Get real....

By comparison, politics here in Oregon is blessedly and deadly dull. Then again, if Texas is the basis for comparison, dull is a very good thing. Sometimes I still find myself missing Texas politics, if only for the sheer comic relief....
