So where is it written that Jesus said women are property?? Chapter 2

(WWJD Disclaimer: Before any of y'all go getting your knickers in a twist here, let's all keep in mind that I'm NOT denigrating Christianity. In point of fact, I respect and honor Christianity. It's CHRISTIANS that I have a problem with...those who call themselves "Christians" but in actuality know as much about the teachings of Jesus Christ as they do about running the West Coast offense. Christianity is not about power, control, and reaction...though you'd never know it from listening to most- not all- Christians.)

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Feminists of the world sit down before you read this. The Vatican newspaper says that perhaps the washing machine did more to liberate women in the 20th century than the pill or the right to work. The submission was made in a lengthy article titled "The Washing Machine and the Liberation of Women - Put in the Detergent, Close the Lid and Relax.".... The article was printed at the weekend in l'Osservatore Romano, the semi-official Vatican newspaper, to mark international Women's Day on Sunday.... "What in the 20th century did more to liberate Western women?," asks the article, which was written by a woman.... "The debate is heated. Some say the pill, some say abortion rights and some the right to work outside the home. Some, however, dare to go further: the washing machine," it says. It then goes on to talk about the history of washing machines, starting with a rudimentary model in 1767 in Germany and ending up with today's trendy launderettes where a woman can have a cappuccino with friends while the tumbler turns.

Yes, from the same pointy li'l haids that brought you forcing a nine-year-old girl to carry the child of a rape to term comes this paean to gender equity. You might be forgiven for thinking that the thing that liberated women the most was equality of opportunity, legal status equivalent to that of men, laws against sexual harrassment, or any number of other legal and social advances. Apparently, you'd be wrong...at least in the eyes of the Vatican. Apparently, the misanthropes in Rome feel that the single most liberating thing for women in the 20th century is...? The washing machine. Seriously. Then again, given the source, I'm surprised they didn't think it was Astroglide or kneepads.

Of course, this all makes perfect sense if you accept that women- fully half of the human population- exist for the pleasure of men. Not that any of the overfed celibate White men in the Vatican really have any idea of how to relate to women. In their world, women really DO exist to serve and please men. It's probably never occurred to them that women are every bit as capable as men when it comes to having dreams. Surprisingly, women DON'T exist to satisfy and please men. It's all well and good if they choose that path, of course, but the choice is, and should be, theirs. Women deserve the same opportunities and regard that men- particularly the troglodytes in the Vatican- afford themselves. Nothing more...and certainly nothing less. Why is still this such a radical concept to some?

International Women's Day? That's nice, sweetie; now wouldja mind getting me a beer? And my pipe and slippers??

I wouldn't have thought that this needed to be said in this day and age, but here we go again: WOMEN ARE NOT PROPERTY. Any questions??
