Pandering sure beats having to...oh, I don't know...show leadership??

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

(apologies to Keith Olbermann)

TX Governor Rick Perry (R-14th cent.)

AUSTIN - Gov. Rick Perry today joined state Rep. Brandon Creighton and sponsors of House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 50 in support of states' rights under the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.... "I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state," Gov. Perry said. "That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states' rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union."

It's often been said (usually by me) that Americans get exactly the quality of leadership they deserve. Man, if that's true, Texans never cease to amaze me how low they set the bar. First, it was Governor George W. Bush, a nonentity and an embarrassment to Texas if ever there was one. Now, there's Governor Rick Perry- Governor Goodhair- who wouldn't recognize an original idea or principled leadership if they snuck up and bit him on the ass.

Perry, who make Dubya look like a freakin' Rhodes Scholar, has suddenly taken it upon himself to assert Texas' sovereignty under the 10th Amendment. I find it interesting that eight years of The Reign of Error generated nary a peep of righteous indignation from Governor Goodhair. Barack Obama has been in the White House for all of three months, and NOW the federal government is trying to usurp the powers guaranteed to states by the US Constitution. WTF?? The hypocrisy is almost tangible, no?

And while you're at it, how 'bout drumming up some false righteous indignation and canned outrage to feed the ignorant, rabid hordes...of which Texas possesses no shortage? Yes, Governor Goodhair will soft-pedal the idea of Texas seceding from the Union...all while feeding the flames that fuel those who get all the information they require from Fox Noise Channel. Now THAT'S some principled leadership, eh?

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Gov. Rick Perry fired up an anti-tax "tea party" Wednesday with his stance against the federal government and for states' rights as some in his U.S. flag-waving audience shouted, "Secede!"

An animated Perry told the crowd at Austin City Hall -- one of three tea parties he was attending across the state -- that officials in Washington have abandoned the country's founding principles of limited government. He said the federal government is strangling Americans with taxation, spending and debt.

Perry repeated his running theme that Texas' economy is in relatively good shape compared with other states and with the "federal budget mess." Many in the crowd held signs deriding President Barack Obama and the $786 billion federal economic stimulus package.

Perry called his supporters patriots. Later, answering news reporters' questions, Perry suggested Texans might at some point get so fed up they would want to secede from the union, though he said he sees no reason why Texas should do that.

Not much has changed in the past three months...oh, except for the fact that we now have a Democrat in the White House. If there's one thing y'all really should know about Texas is that those of us who speak Texan understands that in your English-Texas dictionary "Democrat" translates as "Satanist". Most Texans would vote for a ham sandwich if it had an "R" behind it. Nary a single statewide office is held by a Democrat, and most of the races that led to this reality weren't even close. Yes, to paraphrase the state's tourism bureau, "Things look different here".

Rick Perry will deny pushing secession, but talking about in front of rabid crowds sure ain't going to hurt his re-election prospects, knowhutimean?? Then again, what could you reasonably expect from a man who hasn't had an original idea since he took the keys to the Governor's Mansion from George W. Bush.

Still and all, you might just begin to think that Governor Goodhair has a valid point. You know, the federal government IS oppressive...especially now that there's a Satanist Democrat in the White House. So why not secede? Well, except for having to request help from FEMA in dealing with last week's wildfires. Or asking for federal troops to help patrol the Texas-Mexico border. Or asking for additional federal money and assistance in dealing with the cleanup from Hurricane Ike last September. Yeah, except for the times when you seem to have no problem demanding and accepting money and assistance from the federal government, it IS oppressive. Here's the problem, though: YOU CAN'T HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT, TOO. If you detest the heavy, oppressive hand of federal government, then secede already. Shut up, pack your things, and get the Hell out. Good, decent, thoughtful Americans neither need nor want you. Conversely, if you're going to continue to suck at the federal teat while simultaneously pissing on the hand that feeds you (how's THAT for a tortured metaphor, eh?), you need to STFU. Now. You're an embarrassment.

I'm sick to death of listening to Right-wing idjits pissing and moaning about the oppressive hand of government...at the very same time they're demanding their share of the pie. If you want to secede, then knock yourself out. That just means more for the rest of us...and y'all can just clean up your own damn mess after the next hurricane. You may think you live in God's Country, but to most of the rest of the country (and to this not-exactly-impartial observer) Texas is New Jersey with better weather, more snakes, and fewer Mafiosi.

No surprise here, eh? Texans really DO have the quality of leadership they deserve...even if he's a laughingstock. Rick Perry couldn't lead a pack of ravenous Cub Scouts to a Dunkin' Donuts...not that most Texans give a damn. All that really matters is the "R" behind his name.
