The White House hit back at Newt Gingrich on Wednesday for a twitter post made by the former House Speaker accusing Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor of being a racist. Early on Wednesday, Gingrich put up a post on twitter rapping Sotomayor for saying that her background as a Hispanic female allowed her to understand cases in a different, better, manner than her white male contemporaries.
The perfect way to start this would be with a headline that sums up the ignorant, insulting, and overtly racist tone that Gingrich has decided to assume in the debate over Sonia Sotomayor:

It certainly didn't take long for racism to rear it's ugly head in the discussion of Sonia Sotomayor's nomination to the Supreme Court, did it? Far too many well-fed, well-off White Republicans are beating the drums, and few more nakedly and ignorantly than Newt Gingrich, who's smart enough that he really should know better. Most Conservatives are at least intelligent and politically savvy enough to speak in code when it comes to making an issue of Sotomayor's race. Gingrich, however, has decided that a full, frontal assault on the nominee is the most efficient and direct way to making his point...whatever in the Hell that might be.
Gingrich- along with other Republicans- was quick to highlight Alberto Gonzales' Hispanic roots in 2005. Now, he's quick to tar both Democrats and Sotomayor as racists for doing the exact same thing in 2009 that Republicans did in 2005. (When Democrats do it, it's "partisan" and "racist". When Republicans do it, it's "principled leadership".)
It's a truly amazing thing watching the race to the bottom that Conservatives seem to be engaged in. The very same things they happily engaged in when Republicans ruled Washington are now seemingly anathema and beyond the pale now that Democrats are in power. What's left to them is the low road- racism, ignorance, propagandizing, and fear-mongering. THIS is how they plan on leading this country back to a Republican majority?
