Ignorance in praise of lunacy...or is it lunacy in praise of ignorance?

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

(apologies to Keith Olbermann)

Pat Buchanan

BUCHANAN: Well I, again in that Saturday piece, she went to Princeton. She graduated first in her class it said. But she herself said she read, basically classic children's books to read and learn the language and she read basic English grammars and she got help from tutors. I think that, I mean if you're, frankly if you're in college and you're working on Pinocchio or on the troll under the bridge, I don't think that's college work.

For too long now, too many in the Mainstream Media have looked at Pat Buchanan as some sort of Conservative Svengali, a man willing to argue ideas and take positions that most Right-wingers would avoid like the plague. Buchanan makes for good television, since he'll argue for these ideas as if his life depended on it. What seems to have been missed completely is the reality that Buchanan is little more than a garden-variety bigot willing to dance for the cameras when called upon to do so. Whatever the reason, be it feeding his sizable ego or a willingness to tweak the intelligentsia, Buchanan is the worst sort of "White Makes Right" Conservative, a Republican fully willing to make the argument that power should naturally accrue to Whites. After all, we're the majority, and we built this country. We fought the wars, we took the risks. Ergo, we get to divvy things up, 'kay? Thanks for playing the feud. Come back when you're the majority....

I'm not going to waste a lot of energy savaging Buchanan for being a bigot and an idiot. You can watch the video and leave with that impression. I'll just leave you with this: isn't it interesting that Buchanan denigrates Hispanics for not learning English and assimilating...and yet when someone like Sonia Sotomayor works hard to do just that, Buchanan calls her stupid. Yo, Pat...why not admit you hate and resent Brown People and be done with it? It's not like you're alone in that box....
